Help Line (336-724-2040)of Senior Services, Inc., is one of Forsyth County's Aging and Disability Resource Connection (ADRC) Stations.  Trained Aging Services Counselors are available to guide seniors, their families, caregivers and professionals through the complex maze of local programs and resources designed to help the older adults in Forsyth County maintain their independence. 

 

As your “one-stop shop” for finding information regarding services in Forsyth County for seniors, our Aging Services Counselors are available to listen to your concerns, complete comprehensive assessments, and provide you with information about a variety of service providers.  Counselors may either refer you to appropriate resources or contact programs of your choosing on your behalf to begin the referral process.  Counselors often follow up to make sure that you have received the help you need.

In addition to providing phone

consultations, Help Line's counselors

conduct in-person meetings with seniors

seeking information on aging-related matters.

 

Help Line's Aging Services Counselors are certified by the Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program and can assist with Medicare, Medicaid and other insurance questions.  Counselors provide benefits counseling and are able to answer questions about financial eligibility requirements for a variety of public benefits.

 

Services Include:

·        Confidential consultations that typically last 25 to 35 minutes, longer if necessary 

·        Comprehensive screenings to identify personal care, financial, housing, caregiving

         and other community resource needs

·        Benefits counseling and eligibility screening for public long-term support resources

·        Information and options counseling on private pay long-term support services

·        Referrals to appropriate community resources

·        Employment options counseling

·        Help in planning for future long-term support needs

·        Public education of community resources for older adults

 

          The most common resources that are located through Help Line include:

·        Transportation (for medical appointments and grocery shopping)

·        Help in the home with personal care

·        Meals and nutrition programs

·        Housekeeping and sitter services

·        Resources for home modification and home repair services

·        Information on housing options, including nursing home placement

·        Socialization, recreation and volunteer opportunities

 

          

Additional Services Offered by Help Line

Help Line counselors are certified by the Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (S.H.I.I.P.) and can assist Medicare beneficiaries with questions and concerns related to their Medicare benefits.  Please call Help Line at 724-2040 for a telephone consultation or to schedule an office appointment.

 

Help Line publishes the Directory of Services for Older Adults in Forsyth County, a comprehensive listing of services that can assist the elderly of Forsyth County. Directories are updated annually and are available free of charge.  Just call 724-2040 to request a copy, or go back to the Resources drop-down menu and click on Help Line Directory of Services, which will take you to a page where you can download a copy.

 

Help Line maintains The Senior Services Resource Library, a free educational service to the residents of Forsyth County in need of educational materials regarding a variety of aging and caregiving related issues.  

 

Help Line prints free informational and educational Fact Sheets on a variety of aging issues such as: Community Resources, Hiring a Caregiver, Choosing a Home Care Agency, Housing Options, Support Groups, and Preparing for the Future.

 

Help Line has administered the Operation Fan/Heat Relief Project in Forsyth County for the past several years.  In conjunction with Duke Energy and the Northwest Piedmont Council of Governments, Help Line distributes fans to Forsyth County seniors (age 60+) that have a home situation that presents a “threat to the person’s health and well-being.”  For information on fan availability, please call Help Line at 724-2040, or check the Resources drop-down menu and click on Fan Distribution.

 

Cost of Services

Help Line is a community service that is provided at no cost to residents of Forsyth County by Senior Services Inc.  Donations, however, are accepted.
